Once there was a girl who just kept wondering why her relationships did not work? She did everything to make it work, even put her respect at stake, wondering what made her relationships not work each time. Always felt the disrespect in every relationship, making it feel like there’s a loop she’s stuck in. What could she possibly do to get the respect? What was the universe trying to tell her? Why is she stuck in this loop? What is this loop even?

We often come across similar cycles in life, almost like ‘history repeats itself’. The more experiences we gain, the more we see similar patterns in life, especially in relationships. Does this happen with you too? Keep reading the article to understand more about the repetitive cycles and how to break it.

Karma has a major part to play in every individual’s life. The deeds done with intentions define your life, in terms of sins and virtuous deeds. In Buddhists understanding, the more ego there is in an individual’s life, the more negative karma will be. You may wonder what does Karma have to do with repetitive behaviors?

What Karma has to do with repetitive behaviors?

Let’s do a little exercise before we dive deep. Go back to all your past experiences, where you can see that some relationships have not worked out. These relationships can be in any area of your life. Do you see similar patterns?

These patterns can be anything from not communicating how you feel, getting hurt by similar kinds of people, or being treated differently by people again and again. Let’s understand this with a story of a man who cheated in relationships over and over again. He cheated on his wife first and then went around cheating with many others. Now comes the question of the relation between karma and repetitive cycles. His ‘karam’ or an act became his ‘Karma’ or habit and had the man realized his Karma when he cheated on his wife first and broke his pattern, his life or his Karma would be a good one and it would help him grow and heal. Instead of hurting many other people who got involved with him. As you keep hurting people you are developing karma which will come back to you in some form or the other and till the time you don’t heal this cycle, the paying back will carry on.

Research says that people who often land up being infidel have deep rooted childhood trauma of needs and wants which is karma of parents that children land up carrying. As we speak about this, do you notice the pattern- from parents to kids and then from the kid to another person and this keeps going on. As soon as you realize you are stuck in a pattern, especially an uncomfortable one, with consciousness, you need to break it.

Why is it important to break a cycle or a pattern?

The answer is simple, Karma. Your body is made up of cells which carry DNA and each of this is nothing but memory. Your body has a sense of memory which can be carried from one generation to another as we reproduce in our family line.
If your karma or your acts or deeds aren’t making the people involved happy, it isn’t leading to any good or growth and is leading to downfall and unhappiness, it will only lead to a memory which is made of negative energy.
We hear a lot about doing good deeds or the right things, the reason behind doing good karma is to bring about a mental structure for your life and that will ultimately help you grow and make the right decisions.
Breaking toxic patterns is essential to making your life peaceful and it helps in strengthening your personality, making your relationships better and fulfilling.

How to break repetitive cycles?

To make your life peaceful and relationships around you better, it is important to break negative patterns, the ones that aren’t leading to any good.

  1. Identifying
Good news is, If you are aware that you are stuck in a loop, especially if it’s a negative one, you’re halfway there to healing and breaking the cycle. There’s a reason why events repeat themselves in your life or around you, the universe is trying to communicate with you and tell you what needs to be repaired. Usually it’s a learning for your soul. Being conscious of yourself can help you to know that you equally have the power to stop them. You can start identifying by practicing this little exercise, especially if you feel stuck

  2. Meditation to tune into yourself-
This will help you be closely connected to your inner self and eventually you can develop a natural instinct to stop doing something that will only lead to bad karma. Being more conscious of your doings will help you be aware of how you are making yourself and the others around you feel. Meditation is a gift you can give to yourself and the more you practice, the more spiritually you will be inclined and away from negative and unhealthy bonds and patterns

  3. Mirror exercise-
Some relationships which are triggering, be it romantic like that of a husband – wife or not romantic like that of a mother – daughter and you’re looking to fix these triggers, this exercise works wonders. Close your eyes and ask yourself what you need to do to fix within yourself instead of screaming and shouting at the other person. Understand what is this situation triggering in you

Let’s go back to the first story of a girl who felt disrespected again and again. Instead of working on building self-respect, she went around looking for respect outside. This mirror exercise tells you exactly that, you need to fight your inner demons or insecurities that may be causing these triggers.

Once you’re stuck in a pattern or a cycle, it is difficult to come out but not impossible. Self introspection on a daily basis along with the above mentioned exercises can help you break free from your fear. The reason why these patterns keep repeating in our lives is usually because we are not taking a particular direction which we are supposed to for our evolution. By this process of breaking from the repetitive cycle, you will be able pave the way towards inner knowing and get a deeper understanding of life. Remember- it’s all about conquering your fears.
